Myofascial Release - Back to other treatments

Myofascial Release is a very effective hands-on technique that has been found to significantly restore motion, change posture and reduce pain.
Fascia is the tissue that gives your body it’s structural form and shape. It surrounds the whole body, covering it and can be described a living body suit. It’s appearance is that of a spider web and is densely woven, covering and connecting to every part of the body, including muscle, bone, nerves, arteries and veins, as well as internal organs (ie: heart, lungs, brain and spinal cord.) Fascia plays an important role in the support of our bodies since it surrounds and attaches to all structures. In the normal, healthy state, fascia is able to move and stretch without restriction. When we experience physical trauma, scarring, or inflammation, Fascia loses it pliability. Dehydration occurs in the fascia because of physical and emotional distress. When this occurs, water is pushed out of the tissue, basically turning fascia from fluid like to hard, gel-like and sticky, causing the fascia to not glide as smoothly. It becomes tight, restricted and a source of tension to the rest of the body.

Myofascial work can be used after trauma such as a fall, whiplash, surgery, or habitual poor posture. It can be used on any area of the body as a restricted range of motion, pulling or pain as well as repetitive stress injuries. Myofascial work strives to reverse the pattern or restriction by rehydrating the fascia to a fluid-like state resulting in improved movement and posture, and a reduction or elimination of pain.
